About AES Media Center

Vision- The vision of the Library Media Center is to provide the learning community of Ahoskie Elementary with the needed tools to become lifelong learners and contributors to society by promoting and supporting information literacy.


Mission- The Ahoskie Elementary School Media Center’s mission is to promote, nurture and support ongoing interest, research, and inquiry for all district students and staff. This will be accomplished by recognizing the various sequential and developmental needs for individual students and through curriculum collaboration and cooperative instruction with the entire school community.


Goals:

• To provide equal opportunity and access to information regardless of the socioeconomic, academic or physical needs of each individual student.

• To provide adequate resources and instruction to support research, inquiry, creativity and interest to the school community.

• To provide an unbiased, diverse collection of materials and media to support multiple intelligence, different learning styles and multicultural needs.

• To create meaningful media/library lessons through collaboration with teachers.

• To integrate technology into the curriculum appropriately with teachers.

• To promote lifelong learning, an appreciation of literature and a love of reading.

Your Requirements and Expectations:


•Let the Librarian repair damaged or torn pages in a book


•Students must return their books in order to check out new ones.


•In our library, we do not charge fines for late books. However, if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, you are responsible to pay for the replacement cost of the book.


•Students are always welcome to come to the library at times other than their scheduled library visits to check out books, with their teacher’s permission.


•Positive and good behaviors are important when visiting the library. Students are welcome to talk in the library using their inside voices. Students will not be allowed to yell, scream, run around, jump on chairs or tables, throw books or climb bookcases in the library.


•Misbehavior will receive a warning. If the misbehavior continues students will be sent back to class. Teachers will be notified of the students misbehavior.


•During arts/crafts in the library students will be supplied with crayons, colored pencils and markers. Students are responsible for the supplies they borrow and should not break, throw, mix-up or destroy items they have been given to use during their Makerspace time.
