Elizabeth City State University Visits AES
On March 2, 2020, Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) visted Ahoskie Elementary School for "Read Across America/Dr. Seuss Week".
ECSU Football, Volleyball, Coaches and Alumni members visited classrooms, read Dr. Seuss stories and shared words of encouragement with students.
Students enjoyed their visit and asked ECSU members to return again to Ahoskie Elementary School.



Battle of the Books
Guidelines/Rules for the AES Team-Students’ behaviors are IMPORTANT.
Students must have good behaviors inside and outside of the classroom in order for students to participate in Battle of the Books. Students can be removed from the AES team because of poor behaviors.
Students are responsible for classwork missed during practice for Battle of the Books. 5th grade students have been selected based on their reading levels and scores for Accelerated Reader and STAR at Ahoskie Elementary School. Student’s lack of participation or willingness to read and join discussions for Battle of the Books will cause students to be removed as a member of the AES team.

A select number of 4th grade students will be allowed to participate in the experience of Battle of the Books based on reading levels and behavior at AES. (These students will learn the background knowledge of Battle of the Books, will be allowed to watch mock battles, local battle, possible regional or state battles) after the first nine weeks of school. 4th grade students may also replace a 5th grade student if student behavior or participation does not meet the guidelines above. Each 4th and 5th student will be given a reading log to record weekly/monthly reading goals.

Media Classes
Teachers can schedule times to bring their classes to the Media Center to check-out books and take AR Test.
Library Instruction time can also be used for the Copyright, Plagiarism, Bibliography, Social Media, Digital Footprints.​
2022Â AES Battle of the Books Team Wins!
Ahoskie Elementary School Battle of the Books Team represented Hertford County Public Schools in the 2022 Regional Battle of the Books Competition.

Programs
Project-Based Learning Assignments
The Media Coordinator will be teaching The Copyright, Plagiarism etc. How to write a Bibliography or Works Cited Page.
The Media Coordinator will assistance teachers and students on the assignments - there will be several days students will be visiting the Media Center. The first (4) four visits will be the classes. The teachers will need to schedule time for the students to visit the Media Center to receive these services.

MakerSpace
Tuesdays 4th Grade/Thursday 5th from 8:00am-8:30am and 2:00pm-2:30pm. grade level teachers may select one student from their room each week and allow them to visit the library for learning and fun!

Students must show good behavior inside and outside of the classrooms, they must follow the PBIS guidelines/rules, turn in homework, class assignments on time and be a respectable and reliable student in and outside of the classroom.
When visiting the library students will be allowed to make a variety of crafts, play board games like scrabble, checkers, head bands etc. Students must also show positive and good behavior doing their visit to the library and a willingness to be a team player with their classmates.
